FAQs

Is Strength training safe if i have osteoporosis?

1

Keeping you safe is my top priority! You will need your doctors clearance with recommendations and contraindications for exercise before beginning training with me. Resistance training can improve your bone density. We can encourage supported balance training, strength training load that is enough to stimulate bone growth overtime, and low-high impact training appropriate for you. I’m here to help with your form and exercise development over time.

I’ve never done strength training before. is it too late to start now?

2

It’s never too late to start strength training! I will make adjustments for you so you’re body and mind can slowly adapt to the change. At your first session we will do a movement screen and discover together which movements feel good and come easy to you and which movements are more challenging and need more time to progress.

I’ve heard balance is really good to work on for aging. Do you include this in your workouts?

3

Yes, balance is great to work on and is included in workouts together. There are many ways to train balance beyond standing on one leg and seeing how long you can hold it. For example, I add ball throws to balance and short and fast movements in all directions so you can adapt your balance training to real life scenarios. Safety and supports are always given with balance work depending on your level.

My hot flashes are bad and it gets in the way of my sleep. What if I don’t feel up for my training session that day?

4

You can always reschedule anytime within that same week if you’d rather opt for sleep than a workout so you don’t lose your session. I get it! Also, if you’d like to workout anyway we can modify the intensity of the session, for example do an extended warm up and stretch instead of cardio, balance, agility, and strength training.

Can you recommend weight loss diets, HRT, or Peptides?

5

Fat gain is common during menopause. I’m a certified personal trainer, not a dietician, and my expertise is in exercise. I am here to help you build a lifestyle around exercise which may include general nutrition, sleep, and stress management. We can work on fat loss and muscle gain.

My muscles and Joints hurt sometimes after activity. Why is this?

6

As we age, our muscles and joints need more time to warm up before activity and need recovery afterwards. In strength training, try reducing weight lifted, increase rest between your sets, and modify your range of motion (not squatting as deep or doing a step up instead of squat). Also, additional recovery after a strength training session including sleep, swimming, yoga, stretching, walking, or foam rolling for blood flow, lactic acid release, and lymphatic drainage.
